South Of The Sun

$35.00

South of the Sun: Australian fairy tales for the 21st century (2021) is an enchanting illustrated book for grown-ups. Not all stories end happily ever after, when one mistake can haunt you forever! There are also tales to make you laugh, with sweet revenge or delight in fey magic. Even those set in earlier times have a modern sensibility that reflects our century and celebrates Australian landscapes, characters or voices, in all their diversity, from the Gurindji people of Kalkaringi, to Vietnamese refugees and Iranian-Sufi rug designers. This YA/adult anthology challenges stereotypes and opens new vistas. There are over 50 contributions, including my own. I’m also one of the editors.
